Iran's state television says Syrian President Bashar Assad went into talks with his Iranian counterpart, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, shortly after arriving in Tehran for a two-day visit.
Syria is Iran's closest Arab ally and the two leaders are expected to discuss Tehran's nuclear ambitions in Saturday's meeting.
