Qld: Gold Coast tops for jewellery theft
A survey has found the Gold Coast to be Australia's black spot for jewellery theft.
The AAMI survey found 45.7 per cent of theft insurance claims on the tourist strip
involved jewellery, compared to the national average of 27.2 per cent.
AAMI's MIKE SOPINSKI says the Gold Coast's high number of retirees may have something
to do with the prevalence of jewellery in households.
The inaugural survey also found claims involving the theft of computer software and
cameras was also highest on the Gold Coast.
The AAMI Home and Car Theft Index put Queensland four points above the national rate
of burglaries, placing the sunshine state second behind South Australia.
